While both Dietitians and Clinical Nutritionists are degree-qualified in food and nutrition, our focus and approach are a little different.

Dietitians are trained in medical nutrition therapy and often work in hospitals or community health settings, supporting people with complex medical conditions such as kidney disease, cancer, or tube feeding. Their role is strongly aligned with the medical system.

As a Clinical Nutritionist, my work is centred on holistic, personalised care. I take the time to explore your unique health history, lifestyle, and underlying drivers of imbalance to create realistic, sustainable strategies that support long-term wellbeing. My aim is not only to address symptoms, but to empower you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to feel your best in everyday life.

In short, Dietitians often specialise in hospital-based care, while I focus on individualised, whole-person support in a more holistic setting.

The title Nutritionist in Australia isn’t regulated, which means anyone can call themselves one, regardless of their training.

A Clinical Nutritionist, on the other hand, is degree-qualified and trained in evidence-based nutrition, pathology interpretation, and therapeutic treatment planning. This ensures the care you receive is safe, personalised, and grounded in evidence-based practice.

Everyone’s journey is unique, and the length of care depends on your health history, current capacity for change, and your goals. As a general guide, I usually see clients every 2–4 weeks at the beginning, and then less often as progress is made and confidence grows.

Many people find it valuable to keep a Clinical Nutritionist on their healthcare team long term, even if it’s just for a check-in 1–3 times a year to stay on track and support ongoing wellbeing.
